VOIVOD

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Voivod will finally offer fans Infini, the last album to be written with late guitarist Denis “Piggy” D’Amour, on June 23 via Relapse Records. Infini was constructed from the final songs that Piggy was working on at the time of his death in 2005. There were many discussions as to how to complete these recordings of songs that had never been performed with the whole band in one room, and ultimately they decided to use Piggy’s original demo guitar tracks with no re-amping or overdubs. After that decision was made, drummer Away went into a Montreal studio and tracked his drum parts, and bassist Jason Newsted then added his bass parts in San Francisco. Finally, Snake tracked his vocals in Montreal, and Newsted mixed the final product. Currently the band is also working on a short clip on the making of Infini. Meanwhile, Voivod plans to perform at a number of upcoming summer festivals with the lineup of Snake, guitarist Dan Mongrain, original bassist Jean-Yves “Blacky” Thériault and drummer Away. They will play material strictly from the first 10 years of Voivod’s catalog.

Korn Recording Two New Albums, Prepping For Tour

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

A new Korn album — the follow-up to 2007’s “Untitled” — could be out “within the year” according to bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, while the group is also continuing work on a planned album of covers.

Fieldy tells Billboard.com that he, founding bandmates Jonathan Davis and James “Munky” Shaffer, and drummer Ray Luzier have been “really banging it out” in his basement studio in Laguna Hills, Calif., coming up with “a bunch of songs” with original Korn producer Ross Robinson. He adds that “there’s nothing lyrically put down yet,” but Davis may be taking a studio on the road when Korn kicks off its tour with Avenged Sevenfold on Saturday in Tucson, Ariz., to begin laying down ideas.  No FL dates yet.
