The Eighties thrash metal scene consisted of — Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer! They will share the stage together for the first time in history next summer in Europe, according to a press release issued on Tuesday (December 15th). The foursome will join forces on selected dates of Europe’s traveling Sonisphere festival. Two shows have been confirmed so far, on June 16th in Poland and June 19th in the Czech Republic, with more to be announced.
Rumors of this tour began circulating earlier this year, following Metallica’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but were denied by members of all four acts. Now Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has said in a statement, “Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big four would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time…what a mindf***! Bring it on!”
Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian commented, “People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984. That’s 26 years of expectation,” while Slayer axeman Kerry King said, “It’s about f***ing time this happened, and about time the fans finally get what they want. This is f***ing awesome.”
Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine added, “This is a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ opportunity . . . If there are any heads left at the end of this festival that haven’t banged, they don’t belong there.”
Will Dave get past the past…only time will tell!
